MCP setup guide for Words into Music

Use this guide when you have a compatible MCP client and want the exact connection settings. If you are setting up ChatGPT or Claude, their guides show the buttons and menus first.

Connection settings

Use the whole URL, including the final /mcp. The homepage, a song URL and localhost are not connector endpoints. The server is hosted for you; there is no music server to install on your computer.

Connect and check before generating

1. Add a remote HTTP server in your client and enter the URL above.
2. Choose OAuth sign-in. Use the client's published identity or automatic registration if offered.
3. Sign in on Words into Music, verify your email if needed, and review the requested permissions.
4. Return to the assistant and enable the connector for this conversation.
5. Ask it to check your available song credits without starting a song.

Your first check should return available credits, reserved credits and supported languages. Zero reserved credits means no credit is currently held for a running job. It does not mean every earlier song was free.

Optional terminal setup with Claude Code

If you already use Claude Code, its documented HTTP registration command is:

claude mcp add --transport http words-into-music https://mcp.wordsintomusic.com/mcp

Then open /mcp inside Claude Code and authenticate the connection. Add --scope user when registering if you want it available across projects. This is a documented client configuration, not a claim that we repeated the Claude web acceptance test in Claude Code. Refer to the current Claude Code MCP documentation if the CLI changes.

Make one recording safely

Ask the assistant to prepare a brief with the subject or lyrics, sound, language, duration and whether you want vocals. Preparation does not charge your wallet. Review the brief and approve one song before the assistant calls start_song.

Prepare one 60-second instrumental with soft piano and brushed drums for a rainy afternoon. Check my balance, show the brief and one-credit cost, and wait for my approval. Do not start a second song if a request times out.

A developer client should keep a stable requestId for preparation, then save the preparedRequestId and the returned jobId. Repeat a timed-out start with that same prepared ID. Creating another preparation can lead to another charged song after the first one finishes.

Poll get_song_job no faster than every 15 seconds. A completed response contains the private song link. Open it in the account that approved the connection. Preparing lyrics before starting gives you a better reference when checking the vocal.

If something goes wrong

The assistant says it cannot see the tools

A saved connection can still be disabled for a chat. In Claude, open the plus menu, choose Connectors and turn Words into Music on. In ChatGPT, select the plugin with an @mention when a message needs a new tool call. Refresh the tool list or start a new conversation if your client cached an earlier list.

Sign-in loops or access is denied

Finish OAuth in the same browser flow you started. Do not copy callback URLs into another browser or paste authorization codes into chat. Reconnect through the client's settings if the connection expired. If you disconnected in Words into Music, old tokens must fail until you approve a new connection.

No credits or another job is running

Open Billing to check the shared wallet. MCP cannot purchase a plan. If another song is already running, check that job or return to My songs. Do not create fresh requests to bypass the limit.

The page opens but the recording is private

Sign in to the same Words into Music account used during consent. The link does not grant public access. An assistant cannot read another account's songs simply by guessing an ID.

Remove access when you are finished

Open Settings, find Connected apps and choose Disconnect for the client. New calls stop immediately. Also disconnect in the assistant to remove its stored session. In our production tests, both ChatGPT and Claude returned MCP_ACCESS on their next account read after website revocation.
