A funny diss track starts with something people recognize. Your friend says they are five minutes away while they are still looking for their keys. That is a song. A page of generic insults usually is not.
Pick one running joke
Choose a habit, a story or a friendly rivalry. Keep the subject narrow enough that each line can add something new.
Write down the details before you try to rhyme. What do they always say? What happens next? What is the part everyone in the group remembers?
For the late friend, you have the promised arrival time, the missing keys, the cold food and the text that says "just leaving." Those details give you more to work with than calling someone lazy.
Set up the punchline
A punchline needs somewhere to land. Use the first line to build an expectation and the next to turn it.
An original draft could go:
You said five minutes, so we saved your seat.
Your keys heard the plan and decided to leave.
Read it over a beat or tap a steady rhythm. The joke has to fit in the line. If you need to race through a sentence, shorten it.
Let the hook repeat the joke
The hook should be easier to remember than the verse. Use the subject's familiar phrase, or a short line that sums up the story.
For this example, "five minutes away" can keep coming back while the verses show how much time has actually passed. The repeated line becomes funnier as the story builds.
Choose the delivery
Decide whether you want a relaxed roast, a theatrical battle verse or a playful group-chat joke. Then choose music that fits. A light beat and an amused delivery tell a different story from a tense backing track and shouted vocals.
In an AI music prompt, describe that delivery directly. Try "playful rap, clear rhythmic vocals, a bouncy drum beat and a hook the group can sing together."
Know where the joke stops
Keep private information, threats and invented accusations out of it. A roast about a familiar habit can be funny without humiliating someone. Think about who will hear the track before you share it.
Read the lyrics once without the beat. If the words are meaner than you intended, rewrite them before generating the song. An AI draft is a starting point. You decide which lines deserve to stay.
